Can I plug in my Phone Line into my PCI Modem Card and from there into my modem?
I may be a computer nerd, but I haven't learned much about networking yet. I want to know if I can take my phone line, plug it into my PCI modem card(56k), and back to the modem. And if I'll get a bottleneck or not.
No, you cannot. Every normal telephone device connected to a line with DSL *must* be connected with a proper Dsl Filter. In that setup, your 56K modem would not have a DSL filter, which would kill your DSL performance. If you connected it with a filter, then your Dsl Modem wouldn't work because the DSL signal would be filtered out.
The correct way to do that setup is to connect a DSL splitter to your phone line at the Wall Jack. Connect the 'DSL' output to your DSL modem. Connect the 'phone' output to your 56K modem.
