With an HDMI cable, do I still need to connect the cable box to the tv with a coaxial cable?
I have a new Sony Bravia and figured a HDMI connection between the cable box and the tv would provide better "quality" than using the traditional coaxial cable connection between the cable box and tv. But the HDMI alone doesn't seem to work, and the coaxial cable connection doesn't seem to provide the picture quality I was expecting.
The HDMI cable replaces the coax.
As a wild guess, is this a Motorola cable box from Comcast? Not all of them have the HDMI port enabled. You may need to exchange your box for a new one. (Good luck with that; Comcast staffers seem to have no idea which HDMI-equipped boxes have working HDMI ports and which don't.)
